The 6-Month Performance Marketing Roadmap
A step-by-step, month-by-month plan to go from complete beginner to job-ready performance marketer — exactly what to learn and do in Month 1 through Month 6.
The Short Version
You can go from knowing nothing to being a job-ready performance marketer in about six months, if you learn in the right order. Month 1 is foundations and understanding your customer. Month 2 is setting up tracking and a landing page. Month 3 is running real ads on Google and Meta. Month 4 is creative and the other platforms. Month 5 is scaling, automation, and AI. Month 6 is turning your skill into income with a portfolio and clients. This is the exact order, spread across six months, with a simple weekly habit that ties it all together.
How to Use This Plan
This roadmap turns a big, scary goal — "become a performance marketer" — into six calm, do-able months. You do not need to rush, and you do not need to learn everything at once.
A few simple rules to get the most out of it:
• Go in order. Each month builds on the one before it. Running ads in Month 3 only makes sense because you understood the customer in Month 1 and set up tracking in Month 2.
• Give it an hour or two a day. Steady beats intense. An hour a day for six months will take you further than cramming for two weekends and burning out.
• Spend a little real money early. From Month 3 you should run real ads with a small budget (even ₹3,000–₹5,000). Real money teaches faster than any video.
• Write down what you do. Every campaign you run becomes proof of your skill. By Month 6, those notes are your portfolio.

The Focus
Do not touch the ad tools yet. Month one is about understanding the ground you stand on — what digital and performance marketing actually are, the few simple money words you will use every day, and how to research a real customer before spending anything. Skipping these "boring" basics is the single most common reason people struggle later, so give this month its due. Your one job this month: pick a business to follow through the whole roadmap and write a one-page description of its ideal customer.
What You Cover
By the End of This Month
You can pick any business and clearly explain who its customer is, what they want, and how you would reach them — all without having spent a single rupee yet.
Your Weekly Rhythm (The Habit That Ties It Together)
From Month 3 onwards, once you are actually running ads, your week follows one simple loop. This same five-step rhythm, repeated every week, is honestly the entire job. Tap through it to see how a single week of a performance marketer really looks:
Your Weekly Rhythm
The Simple Loop You Repeat Every WeekPlan
Core Idea
Start each week by picking one thing to test — a new opening line, a new photo, a new offer. Trying to change ten things at once means you never learn which one worked. One clear test per week adds up fast.
Action Items
Simple Example
This week you decide to test two different opening lines for the same product — nothing else changes — so whatever happens, you will know exactly which line caused it.
How to Actually Finish (Most People Do Not)
The roadmap is simple. Sticking with it is the hard part. Three rules will carry you to the end:
- Consistency beats intensity. An hour a day for six months beats a mad rush that fizzles out in two weeks. Small, steady steps are how this actually works — treat it like going to the gym, not cramming for an exam.
- Do, do not just watch. You learn performance marketing by spending real money and reading real results, not by watching one more video. From Month 3, always have a real campaign running, however small.
- Build proof as you go. Write down every campaign the moment you run it. By Month 6 those notes become your portfolio — and a portfolio is what actually gets you hired or wins you clients.
